Ko Māui Hangarau is a high-powered summit featuring some of the best Māori Tech Innovators and Entrepreneurs from around the world.
This initiative was co-founded with Māori Tech entrepreneur Lee Timutimu of Ngāti Awa, Ngāi Te Rangi, Tūhoe and Ngāti Porou. The aim of this initiative is to awaken, inspire and ignite our Rangatahi into pathways in tech, innovation and entrepreneurship!
KMH has evolved to becoming a significant platform to amplify successful indigenous stories to rangatahi Māori and their whānau, by showcasing excellence in Māori Tech, Innovation and entrepreneurship. By providing an environment where rangatahi can see Māori being successful in this space, they can aspire to be successful themselves. By 2030 Māori and Pacifika will make up 30% of the workforce age population and that is expected to increase to 50% by 2050. Yet Māori are over-represented in the lower skilled end of the labour market. With only 6% Māori representation in the NZ Tech industry, we must accelerate Māori Tech awareness, participation and skills attainment if we are to create critical shifts in the labour market for our people. KMH does not only seek to have greater Māori participation in this sector but to occupy leadership positions at all levels.
KMH has delivered over 9 events across the country with over 64,000 people reached via our online platforms.
See kmh.nz for more info about our events.
This work links in with our other workstreams including Hihiko Te Rawa Auaha Innovation Hubs in Communities, Māori Tech scholarships and our digital economy research we are collaborating with other partners.
