Katie Hungerford

Programme Lead - Toi Ki Tua
BBus
Iwi affiliations: Ngāti Kuri, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Mahuta, Ngāti Maniapoto

Born and raised in the winterless north, with a decade and a half spent in Tamaki Makaurau, now residing in Tauranga Moana, Katie is passionate about Māori achieving success in whatever field they choose.

Katie brings 15 years of experience working across engineering, health, food & wellness, tertiary and agri-business in HR, learning & development, recruitment and career development. She has seen first-hand that education, learning pathways, building great relationships and self-belief can create awesome career opportunities that not only benefit the person, but can change the course of a whanau and the generations to come.

Katie is most proud of taking these learnings and developing the Māori Pasifika employability programme at the University of Auckland. A programme that partners with industry to create learning opportunities (externships, work site visits, mentoring and information sessions) and pathways to assist Māori and Pacific students into high value careers. Currently overrepresented in all the wrong statistics, she is passionate about seeing Māori move from surviving to thriving.

As a recent migrant from “the big smoke”, Katie is stoked to be here in the beautiful Tauranga Moana with her hubby and three little ones and is excited to be embarking on a new journey with Toi Kai Rawa.
